The Cambridge Assessment English Delta (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is an internationally-recognized advanced teaching qualification. Ofqual, the exams regulator of the UK government, places Delta at level 7 of the Qualification and Credit Framework, the same level as a Master’s degree or a professional diploma in the European Union.

Delta is suitable for experienced teachers who wish to consolidate and deepen their expertise. Delta means new job opportunities for teachers with experience – a more senior role in teacher training or educational management. For prospective or current Directors of Studies, this is the right step to take to advance their career, both in Poland and overseas.

With Delta Module 1, you have 2 options:

1) a Delta preparation course with an exam
2) a Delta exam only

DELTA MODULE 1 EXAM

Delta has 3 modules. To start with, you can take your Delta Module 1 exam at Lang LTC in Warsaw. We are Cambridge Assessment English Platinum Accredited Examination Centre.

The Delta Module 1 exam consists of two 90-minute papers separated by a 30-minute break.

The exam is paper-based and is held twice a year, in June and December, at authorised exam centres.

DELTA 1 PREPARATION COURSE IN WARSAW

PART-TIME | SPRING 2020 WEEKEND COURSE  (exam date: June 2020)

4 weekends in Warsaw – this course is intended as preparation for the Delta Module 1 exam session in June 2020. The course takes place according to the following schedule:

    • 18-19 April – COURSE WEEKEND 1
    • 25-26 April – COURSE WEEKEND 2
    • 16-17 May – COURSE WEEKEND 3
    • 23-24 May – COURSE WEEKEND 4

Our course is designed to prepare candidates for the Module 1 exam. Our aim is to help you:

  • attain and deepen the necessary subject knowledge
  • master effective strategies for tackling the various tasks in each paper
  • understand what to focus on in the exam for the best result
  • develop your analytical thinking abilities

AM I THE RIGHT CANDIDATE?

To qualify for the course, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • have at least 2 year’s full-time experience of teaching English, ideally of a range of levels, ages and contexts, although applications from less experienced candidates may also be considered
  • your English (spoken and written) is good enough to teach at a range of levels (Minimum CEFR Level – speaking and writing: C1 or above.)

You will normally have an initial English language teaching qualification, such as CELTA.  We may still accept you on to the course without CELTA, if you demonstrate that you would be likely to complete the course successfully. This will be assessed during the interview.

DELTA MODULE 1 COURSE – APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Submit your application online (click below).

  • Complete pre-interview tasks (sent to you via email).
  • Take part in an interview (via Skype).
  • After you receive a letter of confirmation for our Delta Module 1 course, sign the course service agreement and pay the course fee.
  • Complete pre-course tasks before the course starts.

Your successful completion of Delta Module 1 does not automatically make you eligible for Delta Module 2 and Delta Module 3 courses.

There is an independent application process for the candidates interested in Delta Module 2 and Delta Module 3.

This course does not include the Delta Module 1 examination itself. The special exam fee for course participants is 800 PLN.

DELTA Module 1 course | 4 WEEKENDS IN WARSAW

The course will take place over four full weekends.

SEMINARS

Seminars will include:

  • input on key concepts and terminology in relation to language systems and skills, teaching approaches and methods, testing and assessment
  • training in analysis and evaluation of classroom tasks, learner speaking and writing, authentic texts, language tests, published materials
  • training in techniques for tackling the eight tasks in the Delta Module 1 exam
  • guided and timed exam practice, culminating in a full mock exam.

SELF-STUDY

Course participants will also need to be ready to do a substantial amount of independent work outside the course weekends, as there will be weekly tasks with a focus on research in key areas of methodology and language analysis, and further exam practice.

The exact amount of time required will vary from person to person but participants should be ready to spend as much as 1.5 hours a day on coursework.

Alex Tilbury | Course Designer and Tutor

Alex lives in Katowice, Poland. When he’s not busy on CELTA and Delta courses, he works as a teacher, consultant, Cambridge assessor, and author of learner and teacher training materials. He wrote the International House Language Awareness Course and was part of the author team for the English Unlimited coursebook series, published by Cambridge University Press. He was born and grew up in England and studied at the University of York before coming to Poland in 1997. He’s also worked in India, Germany, Romania, the  Czech Republic, and South Africa.

ENROLLMENT

You only pay the course fee after you receive a letter of confirmation, following a successful interview.

PRICE

The course price is 3000 PLN (early bird fee) and 3100 PLN (standard fee) .

It doesn’t cover the Cambridge Assessment English exam fee.
Payment of the full fee must be made untli April 11,2020.

To be eligible for the early bird fee, you need to pay until April 1, 2020.

PAYMENT
In order to secure a place on the course, you need to pay a deposit of 1000 PLN within 7 days of being offered a place. The balance is due until April 11, 2020.

WHAT ABOUT THE MODULES?

Delta consists of three modules, which you can take together or separately, in any order and at any time.

As you can see, Delta is a fusion of theory and practice – combines practical approach to methodology (Modules 1-3) and extensive supervised teaching practice (Module 2).

Module 1the written exam. You can join a preparation course and take the exam at our centre.

Understanding Language, Methodology and Resources for Teaching

This module is more theoretical and focuses on language acquisition, methodology, language analysis, understanding of resources and materials, and principles of testing.

Module 2teaching practice. The 2019 course dates – to be confirmed.

Developing Professional Practice

This module requires attendance at a recognised Module 2 course, during which you’ll build up a portfolio of assessed background essays, observed lessons, and a professional development assignment

Extending Practice and ELT Specialism

This module involves writing an extended assignment of 4,000–4,500 words on an ELT specialism of your choice, for example:

  • Business English (BE)
  • Teaching young learners/young adults (specified age group required with 5-year range for example. 8–13, 14–19) (YL)
  • English for Special Purposes (ESP)
  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
  • Teaching examination classes (EX)
  • Teaching one-to-one (1 to 1)
  • CLIL/Embedded ESOL (teaching English through subject/work-based learning) (CLIL)
